FIRST, WE SIT DOWN FOR A VISIT
We start with a complimentary studio visit. This is perhaps the most important moment other than the shoot, and it serves several purposes:
- It allows you to see all our beautiful portraits of kids and their families framed and hanging in our showroom. Our work is so unique and the range of emotion and technique is so broad, that even if you've seen KidCapers portraits displayed in a friend's home, you'll still benefit from seeing our huge variety of finished artwork. You'll get great ideas for what you want to capture in your portraits when you see what others have done.
- It gives us a chance to learn more about you and your family, so that we can begin the collaborative process of creating your personal portraits. You tell us what touches you about your kids, and we'll find a way to capture it. And we'll give you our two cents worth, to boot!
- This studio visit relieves you of pressure on the day of your photo shoot because you'll be totally "in the know." You'll know how to find our studio; or free and convenient parking; you'll know what to bring; you'll know (and love!) your photographer and staff; you'll know what you want to capture in your portraits; and most of all, you'll know that we know you -your desires and hopes.
YOU'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED A PHOTO SESSION LIKE THIS BEFORE!
If you've got bad memories of what photo shoots were like when you were a kid, or you've had less-than-happy experiences with other studios, put those old preconceptions out of your mind -because our photo session is FUN, HUMANE, and PAINLESS! We like to think of it as a scheduled playtime where Vik just happens to have a camera.
Kids play -it's their job! It's how they learn about their world. Vik believes that this is the best time to conceive and create a portrait -when your kids are just being kids, having fun.
Vik always works as a team with a kid wrangler who plays with the kids and puts the adults and pets at ease while she shoots. This team approach is a very important part of the KidCapers method of portraiture because no matter how great the rapport between a photographer and her subjects, she can loose that powerful connection when she disappears behind the camera.
KidCapers photo sessions are always scheduled for up to three times longer than required for the actual shoot so that there is time to talk, play, do wardrobe changes, and have a snack break (if Vik gets crabby!) so you never have to feel like you're taking up too much time, or worry that we want to funnel you through quickly to get to our next client.

If we had a nickel for every adult who left here saying, "that was painless!" and for every kid who simply didn't want to leave when we were done, we'd have about a million bucks. Or at least a whole lot of nickels!
An interesting aside: we're proud to say that over the years many of our staffers have been former clients and former kids who had so much fun with us, they asked to come and work here!
